When the most recent battle over gun control was scuttled in the Senate, President Obama called it “shameful.” And the old media went a bit berserk. Our own local paper here in South Florida, the Sun-Sentinel, said it was disgraceful, disgusting and gutless.
Those opposed to the bill were painted as heartless villains who don’t care about the young children murdered in CT, even though the bill would not have changed what happened there if it had been in place at the time. The truth played no part in this. The bill was so overreaching that it was doomed from the first moment. The proponents of the bill knew that.
But passing the bill was never the objective.
The current incarnation of “immigration reform” is following the same pattern. The bill is completely outrageous. It contains every dream come true for the progressive left and is anathema to conservatives. It too is doomed to fail.
But passing this bill is not the objective.
So then, what is? According to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) it’s all about the politics.
“President Obama does not want an immigration bill to pass. I think that the president wants to campaign on immigration reform in 2014 and 2016. And I think the reason that the White House is insisting on a path to citizenship for those who are here illegally is because the White House knows that insisting on that is very likely to scuttle the bill.”
When the immigration bill fails, or is simply put away on a shelf somewhere in Harry Reid’s office, the same cry as we heard after the gun control bill failed will go out.
Shameful. Disgraceful. Disgusting. Gutless.
Those heartless conservatives hate people who don’t look like them.
And the campaign for 2014 is set. Conservatives – angry, old white guys, clinging to their guns and their religion, who have KKK hoods in the back of their closets – need to be defeated. The truth won’t matter. The Sun Sentinel, like most of the media will run wild with it. It will all be done in an effort to sway the low information voters to give President Obama what he really wants –
Democrat control of the House again, with our old friend Nancy Pelosi back in the driver’s seat.
Even as ACA becomes a larger disaster every day, it’s highly probable this political strategy will work, enabling the way for a myriad of new laws like ACA which will erode our freedoms and send us toward bankruptcy. Such is the state of the nation, in which the low information, celebrity centered voters are now the majority. Nothing symbolizes it more than Saturday night’s White House press corp dinner.
Too bad there isn’t a button allowing responders to “like” other responses as Max’s response deserves a like.
Too bad the average American doesn’t pay attention to what is happening. There is a reason those who control the politicians want to disarm the public and want to dilute our nation, legally or not. They know the banking ponzi scheme is about to come crashing down, and they know the Average American will have blood in his eye when he realizes what has happened.
Under Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi there has been this “rush to legislate”. The rush is signified by huge bill that are released in the dead of night to be voted on only hours later. If we look at the immigration bill, we can hardly know what is in it because the hearing help by Leahy were a sham and Rubio has buckled at every opportunity. Similarly, the gun control bill was a monument to obfuscation turning legislative control over to the administration.
Congress no longer legislates. they simply tel the executive branch what to legislate for them.
I have little faith the Republicans have actually figured this out yet. The Democrats throw garbage legislation out there knowing the House won’t pass it, yet the House, in its infinite wisdom, doesn’t design a plan and send it to the Senate. \
I could be wrong, but my understanding of the legislative process is that both chambers can pass similar bills and then go through a process of reconciliation to resolve the differences, get them voted on, and send them on to the President. The Stupid Party (yes the Republicans are stupid) allow the Democrats to define them with legislation, like the Senate is passing, without informing the voters what they would do.
In order to get that done, they need some leadership, something John Boehner is sorely unqualified for. We need a Speaker of the House who realizes he’s the 3rd in line to the Presidency, has the power of the purse, and is willing to ask, “What would Newt do?” because Newt was the best Speaker of the House in my lifetime.
