I just deleted what I planned to post here today.  It ran way too long and I feared you would not stay with me to the end.

But it boils down to this:  Two weeks ago, our elected leaders held a “shutdown” of our government.  It was a fraud, and if not for their willful efforts to make life miserable for us, most of us would not have even noticed it.

All the while these members of our elite political class from both parties made Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee out to be public enemies one and two.  They called them ugly names – terrorists, jihadists, Nazis, wife-beaters and racists.  Even The President of The United States participated.  Those of us who supported the efforts of Cruz and Lee were, by extension, included as targets of these slanderous charges.

All this ugliness was because these two men led a small group of members of Congress who kept their campaign promises and tried to stop Obamacare before it was too late.

Think about that for a minute.  They kept their promises to their constituents and see how they were treated for doing so.

And now we’re living the nightmare of what they tried to stop.  In Washington lingo, it’s a “glitch.”  In the real world, it’s promises broken, it’s ineptitude and arrogance.

President Obama stands in the Rose Garden, puts on his best angry face and proclaims, “No one is more frustrated than me.”  It’s as though he is an innocent bystander who had nothing to do with any of it.  He had no idea.  He was blind-sided.

The big headline at The Drudge Report this morning said 300,000 Dropped From Health Plans In Florida.  That’s 300,000 of my neighbors who believed Obama when he told them they were going to be able to keep their health insurance that just got the rug pulled out from under them.

And it’s happening all across the country.  Real people.  Real lives turned upside down at the whim of lying politicians and their social experiments.

Obamacare was supposed to be all about getting health insurance for a relatively small number of folks who couldn’t afford it.  But it is ensnaring all of us who don’t have connections to the elite class.

The stated goal was never the real goal.  If anyone in Washington truly wanted to fix the problem they would have addressed the root, which is the high cost of health CARE.  But they didn’t.  They addressed insurance instead.  And what they created is simply a complex plan to redistribute the cost, and drive that cost so high that we would be unable to afford it, our current system would collapse and we would clamor for someone to fix it.

Then the real plan would be put in motion – the plan to institute government administered healthcare for us all.

This is what so many of us warned and is the only explanation for what we’re witnessing.  In an honest society where truth is valued, Obama, Reid and Pelosi would be laughed out of office for such a failure.  Sebelius would be in prison.  But we abandoned the truth in favor of politics, so they are indifferent.  This is no big deal.  And that’s because they don’t care if any of this works.  It’s only temporary, a stepping stone on the way to their prize – universal healthcare.

They want to rule, not govern.  They want to regulate us at will.  And positioning themselves between us and our doctors gives them all the power they need to control everything we do.

Cruz and Lee have been marginalized by the complicit media and there is no one left to defend our freedom.  We are alone.  We will now live by the rules we have allowed them to institute.  We didn’t pay attention to what they were doing and their task is just about complete.

We turned out backs.  We were not vigilant about our liberty.  And while we watched American Idol and tweeted about Miley Cyrus, they stole it from us.  The machine they built has been set in motion.  I don’t know how we stop it now.

The government is open!

Woo hoo.

Happy days are here again as the massive machine that is our federal government gets back in gear.

OCareFlowChart

President Obama and the other members of the progressive ruling class are free again to pretend they support our soldiers and veterans.  They can continue to impugn the character and motives of conservative lawmakers, as they borrow even more money in the name of our grandchildren and spend us into ruin and collapse.

They can lay claim to being the winners.  The losers of course, are the taxpayers – the average folks just trying to get by.  They’ll get no relief and will just end up on the hook for more and more as the debt grows larger and larger.

John McCain and the other Republicans who attacked Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and Rand Paul are the cowards.  They claim to be conservatives but were too afraid to go up against that giant government machine in the name of the people who elected them.

The fools?  They are mostly the mainstream media – the water boys and cheerleaders for Team Obama, who don’t yet realize they are the useful idiots.  And they are those who still believe the media is telling them the truth, who believe that government can solve all their problems and are grateful this morning that members of Congress have stopped fighting.  They believe the absence of conflict signals everything is just fine.

The conservatives, the dreaded tea party members of Congress, claim they have no intention of standing down, that they plan to continue the fight.  That’s admirable, but how do they win?  They are a minority, surrounded by life-long political animals who are living the dream and have demonstrated that they are ready to go to any length to squash anyone who tries to ruin it for them.

So celebrate!  Eat, drink and be merry!  Like it or not, the government is back in business!

Oh, and next week?  Amnesty of course!  There’s no such thing as illegal in Washington anymore, no one is held to account for their actions, and it appears there’s not a thing to be done to change that.

The giant machine of government, that rolls along devouring its host, is unstoppable.

Remember this classic scene from Private Benjamin?

Poor Judy.  She “did join the army.”  But she “joined a different army.”  She “joined the one with the condos and the private rooms.”  Her recruiter painted a rosy picture of the Army.  He lied to her, and she signed on the dotted line.

She ended up scrubbing the latrine with her toothbrush.

Our recruiter painted a rosy picture of Obamacare.

And in spite of warnings, a lot of people believed him and signed on the dotted line.  They re-elected him.

But we didn’t get that wonderful, efficient, low-cost healthcare and we haven’t seen increased wages and our economy isn’t getting better.

Millions of Americans remain unemployed and millions more are now working part-time jobs.  They are getting notices that their health insurance, which they like and want to keep, is being dropped.  Or their premiums and deductibles are being raised out of their reach.

Hospitals are laying off staff.  Doctors are getting out of the profession.    Business owners are running scared.  Our economy is in the tank, we are in debt so deep that my granddaughter will be paying today’s bills and our elected leaders demand the authority to borrow even more.

And those of us still fighting to get us out from under Obamacare before it’s too late are labeled arsonists, anarchists, terrorists, wife-beaters and Confederate soldiers.

Some are beginning to see the truth, but it looks like too little, too late.  It appears that Obamacare is here to stay.

So break out your toothbrushes.  You’re not getting the condos and the private rooms.

Get on your knees and start scrubbing.  We’re all Private Benjamin now.

There is actually some work getting done in Washington this week.  Yesterday there was more testimony before the House Oversight Committee concerning the IRS scandal.   You’ll recall that the IRS has been accused of singling out conservative groups applying for tax exempt status and targeting them with delays and intimidation.

Remember when Becky Gerritson from the Wetumpka Tea Party got her say?

It was heartbreaking to hear her story and the stories of other Americans who were abused by thugs from our federal government.  But those thugs don’t seem to have learned their lesson.  Yesterday, Sarah Hall Ingram testified before the committee.  Ms. Ingram was one of the big shots in charge when all this was happening.

See the exchange between her and Rep. Gerald Connolly (D-VA.)

How dare they!  But this is what your government thinks of you.  They abuse you, stomp on your Constitutional rights and when you complain, they laugh at you.  Yuck, yuck.  How dare you question their authority!

What a small, arrogant man is Rep. Connolly.  The good people of Virginia’s 11th district should throw him out of office.  Unless of course they endorse this behavior.

And Ms. Ingram?  She went right along.  She thought Connolly was quite funny.  She ought to be fired, don’t you think?

Sorry to disappoint you, but she’s been promoted.  She’s now the director of the IRS Affordable Care Act office.

She’s now in charge of enforcing Obamacare.

When a crazed person starts driving erratically and in a threatening manner in the general vicinity of our politicians, this is what happens.

ProtectPols2Law enforcement from multiple agencies turn out in numbers so great it’s impossible to count them all.

And that’s a good thing.  We want our leaders protected, don’t we?

But what happens when thirty or so crazed people start driving erratically and in a specifically threatening manner, singling out a man and his family on the road?

CricketI’m sure you’ve seen at least parts of the video.

IMG_3796.jpgI watched the whole thing.  It was more than six agonizing minutes.  I’m certain those folks were on the phone with 911.  Yet no officer ever appeared to help them.  Thank God that man, his wife and his two-year-old daughter are still alive.

It’s easy for a lot of these people

CongressGroupPhototo tell you that you have no need for one of these.

GunsAssortThey are surrounded by people who have them and are ready to protect them.

But the rest of us?  We’re on our own.  We don’t enjoy the same luxury of being surrounded by armed personnel charged with keeping us safe all day, every day.

Oh, and when some crazy-eyed politician limits the amount of ammo you are permitted to have, yelling, “No one needs ten bullets to kill a deer!” or some other irrelevant nonsense, ask him what you should do when you are outnumbered 30-1.

Don’t expect a reasonable answer.  He doesn’t need to carry any of his own ammo.  He’s got this.

The morning of September 11, 2001 is still very clear in my mind.  I remember the IM from my husband.

“Turn on TV, plane crashed into World Trade Center.”

I remember talking to my Mom on the phone right after that.  She and the rest of my family still live on Long Island.  Moments after we both watched the second plane hit I asked (somewhat childishly) “Mom, what’s going on?”  This was all happening way too close to her.  I was afraid of what else might be coming.

I recall the chaos at my daughter’s school, as frantic parents searched for their kids, wanting to take them home and keep them safe.

I remember that fear, then the anger and then that pit in my stomach.  It was nausea that lasted for days and still returns quickly with the memories.

Sometime in the following days, we collectively vowed to Never Forget.  Like me, I’ll bet you haven’t.  The images of fellow Americans making the choice to leap to avoid burning to death are inerasable.  When you’ve seen something so unfathomable, it’s with you forever.

But what of those in charge?  What about our leaders?  Have they forgotten?  Sometimes it seems so.

We all know Nadal Hassan is a terrorist.  He yelled “Allah Akbar” as he murdered American soldiers.  But it’s been officially named as “workplace violence” as though he just got out of sorts because a co-worker insulted him.

It’s a year today since our Ambassador to Libya and three other Americans were murdered in an awful, violent attack by terrorists.  First our leaders lied to us and when they could no longer get away with the lie, our Secretary of State at the time, who still wants to be our president, demanded to know what difference did it make?  And although the ringleader of the guilty group has been interviewed by numerous media organizations, our FBI seems unable to find him even today.

Too often it seems our leaders put their devotion to political correctness first and our security much farther down their list of priorities.  Those who wish to kill us face an “overseas contingency” operation, while the full force of an overbearing government comes down on us. Yeah, sometimes it seems our leaders do remember it, but use it as an excuse to do things they would otherwise not get away with.

We are subjected to sexual assault at our airports by unqualified agents of the federal government, a practice which is now spreading to other public areas.  Our privacy is invaded as our government looks at any and everything it pleases – our phone records, our financial information, medical records, emails…  Unelected bureaucrats at government agencies like the IRS are charged with judging which speech is free and which needs to be restricted.  People who write opinions such as the ones I often do are matters of concern.

I’m dangerous.

All the while we’re being governed by faux pas as we find ourselves in an awkward international position over Syria’s chemical weapons.  An off-the-cuff remark by our president landed us here and an off-the-cuff remark by our new Secretary of State is what passes for brilliant diplomacy.  The Arab world is in flux, our enemies there continue to plot against us with the support of our much larger, more dangerous, traditional enemies and our leaders are scrambling to appear credible.

But you and I remember.  We haven’t forgotten.  Too many of us know someone who died that day.  It still makes me angry.  It still makes me sick to my stomach.

And as long as we don’t forget, the vile and twisted evil of that day can never win.

Dennis Kucinich served 8 terms in Congress as a democrat representing his district in Ohio.  Most often I disagreed with Kucinich.  But IDennisKucinich also respected him.  He didn’t tell voters what he thought they wanted to hear, then go to Washington and do the opposite.  He always says what he thinks.  Whether you agree with him or not, you pretty much know where he stands on an issue.

That’s rare in politics and deserving of respect.

Occasionally I agree with him and on the NSA scandal we are again aligned.  As the agency’s own internal audit admits it has made “mistakes” and has been spying on almost 3,000 of us, the Obama administration and members of Congress on the right and the left defend them.

But Kucinich ticks off the many violations of our constitutional rights.  And it’s quite a list.  He wants the agency abolished.  I am not privy to enough information to know if we need to go that far, but I would at least agree that a major overhaul and a lot more oversight are needed.

We know the agency is gathering massive amounts of data on each and every one of us and we know they have the capability to monitor our every word and move.  As we watch our federal government expand and overreach in this and other areas, we are asked simply to trust them.

That’s a lot to ask.

I also find myself somewhat aligned this morning with Ben Jealous, the President of the NAACP.  Jealous is defending the recent decision of a federal judge who said that the practice of stop-and-frisk is unconstitutional because it is racially discriminating.

Defenders of stop-and-frisk, again from both sides of the political spectrum, say that stop-and-frisk saves lives.  There’s probably some truth to that claim, but these promoters ignore other factors like poverty and unemployment when they toss out numbers to support their side.

And I disagree with the part about racial discrimination.  I cannot agree with Jealous or the judge on that.  I simply think that stop-and-frisk is another violation of the Constitution.  With regard to law enforcement, I always give them the benefit of the doubt.  I assume that officers are doing their job to the best of their ability and leave any racial or other discriminatory thoughts at home.

But stop-and-frisk is a small step and people can become conditioned to accepting their freedom being taken away in these small steps.  We have incrementally become accustomed to truly illegal searches to board an airplane.  And now the TSA is moving into other areas where their jurisdiction is certainly questionable.

I am reminded again of what happened in a Boston suburb the day everyone was searching for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, one of the Boston Marathon bombers.

No one talks about this.  It was an emergency, so those American citizens were simply stripped of their rights.  That’s not the way it’s supposed to work, yet it played out in broad daylight, one house after another.  This is that slippery slope we talk about.  We give a little bit here and little bit there, because we want some sense of security in return.

Then one day we find tanks on our street and a dozen FBI agents in full gear pounding on our door with automatic weapons pointed at our heads.

America is more divided right now than at any point in my lifetime.  Skillful politicians and their supporters have us at each other’s throats over any and everything.  We fight over race, class, money, education and even saving the planet.

And while we do battle with each other, a ruling class is emerging.  We’re too busy arguing with each other over small things and all the while that ruling class gets stronger and we get weaker.  We need to find some common ground.  It’s time we find the things we can agree on and unite on those things.  If we can’t, that ruling class will complete its task and we will find ourselves living under their thumbs, taking the scraps they toss us.

So for today, I’m standing with Dennis Kucinich.  There was time I would never have thought I might say that.  But here I am.  He is standing up for the Constitution and for individual freedom and I fully support it.

Any one care to join us?

-Kathy
