Dear Readers, life has kept me busy lately – some good things and some not so good.  And of course, that rotten cold last week!  These things have prevented me from writing much of substance and that is good reading.  I apologize.  Today I am posting more on an issue important to all of us.  But again, it is someone else’s work.

I will get back in the groove soon, as we continue the important business of getting the word out.  I ask you to stick with me.

Illegal Border Crossings Double

-Katie Pavlich

As the immigration reform Gang of Eight inside the Beltway prepares to announce a deal later this week, claiming border security will come before a path to citizenship for millions of illegals, Border Patrol agents have seen illegal border crossings double and warn the cutting of agent work hours will only result in less border security, not more.

“We’ve seen the number of illegal aliens double, maybe even triple since amnesty talk started happening,” an agent told Townhall, who asked to remain unnamed due to fears of retaliation within Customs and Border Protection [CBP], something he said is common. “A lot of these people, although not the majority, are criminals or aggravated felons.  This is a direct danger to our communities.”

Data obtained by Townhall and reported within CBP from February 5 through March 1, 2013 shows 504 illegal aliens were spotted exploiting the Tucson/Nogales area, 189 were caught on CBP intelligence cameras.  Of those 504, only 174 were apprehended and 32 of the 189 on camera were carrying large drug load packs for Mexican cartels. Some were armed with AK-47 style weapons.

Below are selected photos obtained by Townhall from CBP intelligence cameras in Southern Arizona near the border with Mexico. Sensitive information has been redacted in order to protect the security and identity of the camera locations.

Last week, Fox News reported sections of the border will soon become unpatrolled as hours for on-the-ground agents are cut. Townhall has learned Border Patrol agents working the border have been fully funded, yet internal political battles within CBP may be causing funds to be funneled to managers, rather than those getting their boots dirty on patrols.

“Customs and Border Protection has been given enough money to fully staff the border but has chosen to use the money elsewhere, we believe it is to fund the salaries of Supervisory CBP Officers.  The money they are diverting was to go to AUO (Administratively Uncontrollable Overtime) which is actually straight pay and is used to pay Border Patrol Agents for anything past eight hours.  Being that we have to maintain staffing 24/7 this is a huge part of border security.  The criminals and drugs don’t stop coming so we have to make sure we have people out there.  Cutting AUO will be a 30% pay cut for our agents but more importantly a minimum 20% loss of staffing out in the field,” Vice President of the National Border Patrol Council Shawn Moran tells Townhall. “It is internal politics within CBP and also with immigration reform.  There are still battles between legacy Customs, INS, and Border Patrol managers as to the direction CBP takes and how the funds are being used.  Meanwhile both parties claim no immigration reform until the border is secured, well this surely will not secure the border.”

As sequestration goes into full effect April 7 and a deal in Washington on immigration reform gets locked in, illegal crossings are expected to get worse.

“We have seen increased crossings and smuggling since word of staffing cuts began circulating.  The illegals have even told us that is why they tried crossing.  The border is safer but by no means secure,” Moran says.

Another agent expressed the same sentiment, saying when apprehended, some illegal aliens ask where they can go to find amnesty.

Despite border security being put further at risk through bad policy, the push for immigration reform well before full border security is ongoing. The AFL-CIO reached a deal with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on a guest worker program late last Friday. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said the Gang of Eight has reached a deal on immigration reform on CNN’s State of the Union over the weekend, but Republican Senator Marco Rubio has said reports of a deal are pre-mature.

Congressman Duncan Hunter has formally asked the TSA to explain their repulsive treatment of a wounded Marine at Sky Harbor airport in Phoenix last week.

According to Hunter, the Marine lost both his legs in an IED attack and is still on active duty.

The Congressman says, “A TSA officer asked the Marine to stand and walk to an alternate area, despite  the fact that he physically could not stand or walk on his own. With numerous  TSA officers sitting and unwilling to assist, an officer then made him remove  his legs, then put them back on, only to advance to a secondary screening  location where he was asked again to stand, with extraordinary difficulty, while  his wheelchair was examined for explosives.”

You can read more about the TSA’s disrespectful behavior in The Washington Times Report here.

Can we keep in mind that the “qualifications” for our TSA agents is a GED or a year’s experience as an X-Ray tech.  The TSA also requires a clean record, but as we all know they don’t check, as numerous criminals have been found to be on the job, assaulting our mothers and children.

Compare that to a United States Marine who has given his limbs in service to his country.  And still remains on the job!

And he’s treated to such hostility in his own country?

This story makes me sick to my stomach.  I’m certain that the TSA will give Congressman Hunter their usual answer about how they hold their people to the highest standards and that the individuals involved will be sent for sensitivity training.  They have no more respect for a United States Congressman than they do for a United States Marine.  Why should they?  They are not held accountable for any of their contemptible behavior.

They answer only to DHS Secretary Napolitano.

And it seems that the TSA is running exactly as she wants it to be run.

Chris Crane is the president of the union that represents Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents (ICE.)  On Tuesday  he testified before the House Judiciary Committee.

If these men and women are not being permitted to enforce our laws, why do we even have them in place?  What’s the point of having Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents if they aren’t enforcing anything?  The cost of their salaries and equipment seem to be a very high price to pay just so that our government can pretend that our borders are secured.

Another youngster has been terrorized by school officials in the ongoing hysteria over imaginary and toy guns.  This time it’s in Philadelphia.

This is grown up bullies intimidating defenseless children.  This is manipulation and propaganda aimed at those unable to defend themselves.

The kids who are singled out are afraid to even return to school and every other kid in the room gets the message – every gun is bad, every gun owner is bad and it’s your job to rat them out.  If you step out of line, you’re next.  We’ll come after you too.

The perpetrators, the school officials who are brainwashing these kids, duck the reporter and are too afraid to defend their behavior to another adult.

But they are very brave in a room full of fifth-graders.  They have no problem spreading their propaganda when their audience is defenseless.

A five-year old Pennsylvania kindergartener was suspended for 10 days for issuing “terroristic threats” against a classmate.  She threatened the girl with a pink Hello Kitty Bubble Gun.

She didn’t even have the bubble maker with her at school.

The terrorist’s mother convinced school officials to lower the charge to simply “threatening to harm another student” and with the lesser charge the punishment dropped to only a 2 day suspension.

If you’ve been getting your news in the past couple of days only from the old media – ABC, NBC, CBS, The NY Times and most US newspapers, chances are you haven’t seen this.

This is some of what happened earlier this week outside the Michigan State Capital as groups alternately supported or opposed Michigan’s new right-to-work law.  The guy on the receiving end of those punches is comedian and Fox News contributor Steve Crowder.  The guy throwing the punches, the one grabbing Crowder by the neck, the one threatening to “kill him with a gun” and their buddies are union members opposed to the new law.

The tent being dismantled belongs to Americans For Prosperity, a tea party group.  There were still people inside that tent as it was being destroyed – women, seniors and several reports say there were two people in wheelchairs inside.

This is Clint Tarver.

ClintTarverTarver, aka “the hot dog guy” was hired by Americans For Prosperity to provide refreshments during the event.  All his equipment was inside the tent as it was torn down.  The union members overturned his tables and stomped on his equipment.  When he crawled into the fallen tent to try to salvage his belongings he was threatened.  Racial slurs were tossed his way.

But that’s not all of the thuggery.  On the floor of the Michigan legislature, Democrat state Rep. Douglas Geiss, speaking about the new right-to-work law, promised “there will be blood.  There will be repercussions!”  Teamsters President Jimmy Hoffa said, “This is just the first round.  We’re going to have a civil war.”

Michigan’s Republican Governor Rick Snyder and his family have received death threats.

But while the old media covered the event, they left out all this.  They showed protesters marching.  They showed protesters who had been pepper-sprayed by police, but not what they had done to deserve the pepper spray.  ABC described it as “boisterous.”

Now, I recall the reporting about tea party rallies several years ago.  Everyone on the left, including the old media, was trembling in fear of those “violent” people.

Boo hoo.

Where’s Pelosi now with her crocodile tears?  How about our president?  He likes to make calls for civility.  He’s strangely absent here.

And why isn’t the media fearful of all these union thugs and their threats?  Why won’t they show you what really happened?  It’s all over the internet.  Fox News has reported it.

Because it doesn’t fit their mold.  People on the right are the crazies.  They’re the violent ones.  They’re the ones clinging to their guns and their bibles.  They may blow at any time and who know what they might do?

But the left is tolerant.  They love everyone.  They haven’t got a racist bone in their bodies.  They just want what’s good for “the people.”  They never hurt anyone and never, ever resort to violence.  It’s simply not in their DNA.

What happened in Michigan doesn’t fit that narrative, so they simply choose not to show it.  If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to witness the event, it didn’t happen, right?

Three years ago, Andrew Breitbart offered $100,000 to anyone who could provide evidence of violence at a tea party event.  That reward remains unclaimed.  Yet the tea party is still portrayed as the violent ones we need to worry about.  Here we have video tape of real violence and the old media turns its collective back and sighs.  Ho hum.

Fox News is the only major news provider willing to show the truth but this earns them the nickname Faux News.

But who’s really giving you faux news?

A TSA agent exposed the breasts of a 17-year-old girl at LAX during a security pat-down.  She happens to be the grandniece of a member of Congress, so maybe, just maybe, someone in Washington will try to get some control over this out-of-control bunch.

This is sexual assault on a minor.  There is no excuse and no apology can fix this.

How much more are you willing to tolerate?  Would you be good with all this if this happened to your wife?  Your daughter?  Your sister?  Your grandchild?

Twitchy is following the events.

Liberty Trail Update:

This assault happened two years ago in Georgia.  Apparently TSA has only released info now under Freedom Of Information Act.

The agent was given more “training” and apparently is still on the job.

I’ve been watching a series on the History Channel called The Men Who Built America.  I think they are still running repeats at off hours, if you haven’t seen it.  It begins with Cornelius Vanderbilt, showing how he amassed his great fortune and follows with the same for Rockefeller, Carnegie, Morgan and briefly in the final episode with Ford.

Except for Ford, these men built their empires at a time when America was still a truly capitalist country.  There were few laws and little regulation on their businesses and so they were free to do pretty much what they wanted.  As the show illustrates, this was an amazing time for our country as we progressed so much, so quickly.  There were so many benefits to the average citizen because of the products these men made cheaply enough to be available to almost every one.

But all this came at a price, and that was often in the form of terrible working conditions.  According to the show, 1 in 11 workers was killed in Carnegie’s steel mills each year.  Long hours, danger and low pay were the norm.  The workers often had nowhere else to go as the tycoons had complete or near complete control over their respective industries, and vast fortunes that allowed them to buy whatever they wanted, including politicians.

But when Teddy Roosevelt became our president in 1901, he started the ball rolling on trust busting – trying to break up the monopolies that had been built.  Much has changed since then, mostly in the form of labor unions and government regulation.  These have brought a great shift in power and we have now swung too far in the other direction.

We have seen over and over how powerful unions can destroy the companies they work for, most recently as in Hostess Brands.  The unions now have great wealth and great influence over politicians, like the early business titans did.  And private sector unions are bankrupting cities and states across the country.

At the same time, our political leaders continue to pile regulation upon regulation and tax upon tax.  Innovation is strangled by government interference and our tax code has gone from being a simple source of revenue to a massive mechanism to reward friends of the party in power and punish enemies.  Companies employ small armies of tax attorneys in order to comply and even the average citizen is unable to compute their own tax responsibility without professional help.

FDR brought us Social Security which put most of our retirements in the hands of our government.  LBJ gave us Medicare and made us subject to government control over our healthcare in our final years.  And now Obama has given us Obamacare, by which the rest of us will soon depend on the government for our health needs at a cost most don’t realize yet.

Business owners are scrambling to find ways to stay in business while complying with this new law.  Many are cutting their workforce or not taking on new employees that they otherwise would.  Many are reducing hours, turning full-time positions into part-time positions to get around the requirements.  Some are just closing their doors.

On top of all the concerns of Obamacare, we’re also facing that fiscal cliff.  If Congress doesn’t find a fix, all our taxes will substantially increase with the New Year.  Estimates are that the average increase per household will be around $3,500.  Middle class families should expect at least a $2,000 increase.

Congress seems to be uninterested.  They adjourned and went home on Friday.  They’ll be on vacation for Thanksgiving until the end of the month.  They will then work for 2-3 weeks until they are scheduled to go on Christmas vacation in mid-December.  And they’ll be gone until January.

In the meantime, we all wait.

Business is nervous and the market reflects it.  The rest of us wonder if we’ll have jobs in the near future or if our hours (and our paychecks) will be cut.  Will our employers choose to get rid of our health insurance plans?  Will we be able to pay our bills?

536 people (435 members in the House, 100 in the Senate and the president) hold the power over what the future will be for the other 315,000,000 or so of us.  This is not what our Founders set up.  The people working for Carnegie and Rockefeller a hundred years ago were not happy living under the control of their employers.  But we’ve replaced them with a much more powerful and dangerous group which continues to place roadblocks in the way of our prosperity and seizes more and more control over our lives.  Their out-of-control spending reaches beyond today’s worker to place a crippling financial burden on generations to come.

Our country was founded on the idea of personal liberty, guaranteed by our Constitution.  That Constitution is mostly ignored these days.  The majority has become complacent and leaves too much to chance and the whims of a tiny group of elected leaders who are far more abusive than any robber baron in our past.

There is plenty of blame to go around in examining how we got here, and of course, the past cannot be changed – only the future.  I grow more and more pessimistic that the majority will awaken any time soon.  We may have to travel farther into the darkness of tyranny before we grasp for that Constitution once more, rid ourselves of our current task masters, and restore power to the people as our Founders intended.

From NBC:

“Hostess, the makers of Twinkies, Ding Dongs and Wonder Bread, is going out of business after striking workers failed to heed a Thursday deadline to return to work, the company said.

“We deeply regret the necessity of today’s decision, but we do not have the financial resources to weather an extended nationwide strike,” Hostess CEO Gregory F. Rayburn said in announcing that the firm had filed a motion with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to shutter its business. “Hostess Brands will move promptly to lay off most of its 18,500-member workforce and focus on selling its assets to the highest bidders.”

Hostess Brands Inc. had warned employees that it would file to unwind its business and sell off assets if plant operations didn’t return to normal levels by 5 p.m. Thursday. …Hostess said its wind down would mean the closure of 33 bakeries, 565 distribution centers, approximately 5,500 delivery routes and 570 bakery outlet stores in the United States.

In an interview with Fox Business, CEO Gregory Rayburn said many workers had already crossed picket lines this week to go back to work despite warnings by union leadership that they’d be fined.

“Most employees who lose their jobs should be eligible for government-provided unemployment benefits,” Hostess said.

Good bye Twinkies.  RIP.

And thanks union thugs – more people unemployed and on the public dole.  Brilliant idea.

All indicators told us that the majority of Americans rejected making our healthcare a function of government, yet we just voted against the last chance to stop that takeover.

All indicators told us that Americans were unhappy with our financial situation – the spending and borrowing and unemployment.  But we voted for more of the same.

We agreed that this wasn’t right.

But we voted for more of it, supporting the administration that made it perfectly legal this time around.

President Obama and his administration washed their hands of the death of this brave border patrol agent.

He exploited our brave Navy Seals, endangering their lives and their families to bask in the glory of the death of Bin Laden.  But he turned his back on them in Benghazi, leaving them to be slaughtered.

I guess Americans are ok with that.

Our religious freedom under the First Amendment was sacrificed.  Our freedom of speech won’t be far behind.

Obama promised that our energy costs would sky-rocket and that’s precisely where they’re going.  But we voted for more.

What has happened to America?

I would like to think that this election is the result of widespread fraud.  That would give me comfort.  The alternative is that it’s over.

Is it?  Are we now all Sandra Fluke – obsessed with our private parts?

Are we the Obama phone lady – supporting the guy who gives us stuff?  Stuff he took from someone else who actually worked for it?

Are there really so many people in this country who haven’t learned what happens to people in socialist and communist countries?  I guess they don’t teach that in school anymore.  They no longer teach how many millions have died under such regimes.

I’m not sure what to do now.  I don’t think there are any cards left to play – at least not within the law, and I’m kinda big on that.  This was a turning point election and we’ve made the wrong choice.

Obamacare will be fully implemented.  It will work for a while, but eventually the cost in dollars and in lives lost will come crashing down.  All those rich people we plan to tax will leave, taking their money with then.  It was never enough anyway.

Those reveling this morning will get their Obama phones and their free birth control pills for a while, until that dries up too.  I’m not sure what they’ll do then.  It won’t matter.

The cost of energy will continue to grow.  Rationing will come.  We’ll wait in line for government food and whatever other scraps they toss our way.  We won’t dare speak up for fear of the consequences.

My beautiful granddaughter is just trying to figure out how to walk.  She doesn’t know any of this is going on and she has no control over what’s happening.  But my heart aches for her.  At least I’ve lived free for most of my life.

But she will never know freedom.  She will live under the heavy thumb of government that forces compliance to their whims.  For this, I am sorry Sunshine.  I tried my best to warn people – I really did.
