The government is open!

Woo hoo.

Happy days are here again as the massive machine that is our federal government gets back in gear.

OCareFlowChart

President Obama and the other members of the progressive ruling class are free again to pretend they support our soldiers and veterans.  They can continue to impugn the character and motives of conservative lawmakers, as they borrow even more money in the name of our grandchildren and spend us into ruin and collapse.

They can lay claim to being the winners.  The losers of course, are the taxpayers – the average folks just trying to get by.  They’ll get no relief and will just end up on the hook for more and more as the debt grows larger and larger.

John McCain and the other Republicans who attacked Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and Rand Paul are the cowards.  They claim to be conservatives but were too afraid to go up against that giant government machine in the name of the people who elected them.

The fools?  They are mostly the mainstream media – the water boys and cheerleaders for Team Obama, who don’t yet realize they are the useful idiots.  And they are those who still believe the media is telling them the truth, who believe that government can solve all their problems and are grateful this morning that members of Congress have stopped fighting.  They believe the absence of conflict signals everything is just fine.

The conservatives, the dreaded tea party members of Congress, claim they have no intention of standing down, that they plan to continue the fight.  That’s admirable, but how do they win?  They are a minority, surrounded by life-long political animals who are living the dream and have demonstrated that they are ready to go to any length to squash anyone who tries to ruin it for them.

So celebrate!  Eat, drink and be merry!  Like it or not, the government is back in business!

Oh, and next week?  Amnesty of course!  There’s no such thing as illegal in Washington anymore, no one is held to account for their actions, and it appears there’s not a thing to be done to change that.

The giant machine of government, that rolls along devouring its host, is unstoppable.

Hundreds of veterans and their friends went to Washington this weekend.  Unlike the illegal aliens who were welcomed to the National Mall last week with open arms, the veterans were greeted by police in riot gear, armored vehicles and even helicopters to keep an eye on them.

BarArmCarBarPolHorse

Complaining that they didn’t want to be used by politicians as political chess pieces, the veterans removed the barriers around our memorials, specifically the WWII Memorial.

They carried the barricades up 17th Street and deposited them in front of the White House.

BarCarryBarSegwayBarWH

FOX News is reporting that the barricades are back up again this morning, re-erected by Park Service personnel that we’re told we cannot afford.

These people still need to be kept out of our nation’s capital.

BarVetsWchairsBarWCSign

I want to know who gave this order to put the barricades back up.

I want to know why the President of the United States, our Commander-in-Chief, doesn’t order a stop to this.

Don’t you?

Godwin’s Law no longer applies, not in Obama’s America, not when average Americans are talking about the “Gestapo tactics” of federal police.

More stories of the vengeance being served up for Americans surface every day.  Yesterday we learned of a group of seniors on a bus tour to Yellowstone being held as prisoners in their hotel.  Armed Park Police forbid they go outside.  They stood guard at the doors.  They barricaded Old Faithful.  They forbid the seniors from taking pictures, saying they could not do that as it was “recreating” and that is not permitted on public land during a government shutdown.

Some of the foreign tourists on the trip thought they were under arrest.  Imagine that!  Visitors from other countries coming to The Land of The Free thought they were under arrest by our federal government.

The tour guide described the behavior of the Park Police as “Gestapo tactics.”

If you haven’t yet seen the full story, read it here.

But perhaps the worst story yet in all this is the news that the United States of America will not pay death benefits to the families of five soldiers killed during our phony government shutdown.  Congress is blaming the Defense Dept. and they, of course, are blaming Congress.

I blame the Commander-In-Chief.

We’ve all watched as President Obama re-writes laws on regular basis with the stroke of his pen.  It would take one phone call from him and the families of our dead soldiers would be taken care of.

But he hasn’t picked up the phone.

It costs money to erect barricades all over Washington and all around the country.  It costs money to have armed agents of the federal government guard these newly off-limit areas.  Money we’re told we don’t have.  Which is it?

And while our veterans and average American citizens are not welcome in our nation’s capital, Nancy Pelosi specifically thanked Obama for opening up the Mall for a rally for illegal aliens yesterday.

IllegalRallyStage

He picked up the phone for that.

All this is wearing on America.  People who work hard and play by the rules don’t like what’s going on.  And their displeasure with Washington politicians goes back far past this current shutdown.  A couple of years ago all that anger manifested in the Tea Party rallies.  These were peaceful gatherings.

On Friday, we’re expecting thousands of truckers to descend on Washington for the “Truckers Ride for the Constitution.”  The drivers say they will clog the beltway, tying up traffic there for three days.  While this certainly isn’t violent, it’s far more active and disruptive than standing around holding a sign for a few hours.

What then?  Do the protests continue to escalate?  What comes next?

More importantly, is this the objective of our president and his advisors?  Does he want Americans to be so angry at their government?

It certainly appears that way, doesn’t it?

If not, why all the poking?  Why all the shoving?  Why push Americans around and treat them so badly that “Gestapo tactics” gets tossed out by a tour bus driver and a bunch of senior citizens?  Why the ongoing effort to so publicly disrespect our soldiers and veterans?

We are in some uncharted territory here, folks.  Tread lightly.  Watch your back.  Watch out for each other.  I think we’re in for a very bumpy ride.  And it will be easy to abandon our principles and simply fall into line.  But the cost of that easy out will be paid with our liberty.

Remember that when the truth is on your side, you hold the real power.  Stay focused on that truth and when it’s all over, we win.  And win we must.  The stakes are just too high.

We have all been quite disgusted by the disrespect for our veterans going on in Washington.  The Obama administration has gone out of its way and spent additional tax dollars to block access to our memorial sites.

Our complaints have been swatted away by President Obama.  It’s just all part of the government shutdown.

HonorFlight7

VetsBarricade1

VetsBarricade2And now, continuing to up the ante, he rubs more salt in the gaping wounds of Americans.

Today the National Mall will be open for illegal aliens.

The Park Service has given the go ahead for an amnesty rally.  Camino Americano will have their event today with the blessing of our president and his administration.

There’s such a disconnect in all this.  American citizens and war veterans have been barricaded out of our monuments in our nation’s capitol and all across the country because of an argument over Obamacare.  President Obama and the Democrats in Washington say that they won’t negotiate with Republican lawmakers because Obamacare is “the law of the land.”

But we have millions of illegals aliens in America because the same politicians have ignored our immigration laws which are also “the law of the land.”

And now those illegals demand their “rights.”  We’re told they are relegated to “living in the shadows” yet they boldly march in our capitol, demanding we give them citizenship.  And walking right beside them will be Nancy Pelosi and dozens of other Democrat lawmakers.

But our veterans?

When a crazed person starts driving erratically and in a threatening manner in the general vicinity of our politicians, this is what happens.

ProtectPols2Law enforcement from multiple agencies turn out in numbers so great it’s impossible to count them all.

And that’s a good thing.  We want our leaders protected, don’t we?

But what happens when thirty or so crazed people start driving erratically and in a specifically threatening manner, singling out a man and his family on the road?

CricketI’m sure you’ve seen at least parts of the video.

IMG_3796.jpgI watched the whole thing.  It was more than six agonizing minutes.  I’m certain those folks were on the phone with 911.  Yet no officer ever appeared to help them.  Thank God that man, his wife and his two-year-old daughter are still alive.

It’s easy for a lot of these people

CongressGroupPhototo tell you that you have no need for one of these.

GunsAssortThey are surrounded by people who have them and are ready to protect them.

But the rest of us?  We’re on our own.  We don’t enjoy the same luxury of being surrounded by armed personnel charged with keeping us safe all day, every day.

Oh, and when some crazy-eyed politician limits the amount of ammo you are permitted to have, yelling, “No one needs ten bullets to kill a deer!” or some other irrelevant nonsense, ask him what you should do when you are outnumbered 30-1.

Don’t expect a reasonable answer.  He doesn’t need to carry any of his own ammo.  He’s got this.

My daughter and son-in-law have been going to the airport to greet returning Honor Flights.  Hundreds of Americans show up for these events.

HonorFlight4

HonorFlight1

They bring my granddaughter, and although she’s only 2 years old, and doesn’t really know what she’s participating in, I like that they are teaching her how to respect these veterans.  There’s a certain circle-of-life thing to it.

HonorFlight5

HonorFlight3

Honor Flight is the group that arranges to get veterans, mostly from WWII, to Washington, DC, to see the war memorials.  Through donations, they fly the veterans from their home states to DC for the day.  Most of these heroes would otherwise never get to make the trip.  This is just one of those really good things that Americans do for each other.

It has been hard to watch what’s happened in the past couple of days, as these memorials have been fenced off, blocking access to the veterans, telling them they are not welcome.

HonorFlight7I’m sure you’ve already made up your mind about who is to blame for this national disgrace, but we need to be clear that The President of The United States has discretion in this matter.  Just last week, the White House “found” $100 million of “untapped” funds to bailout Detroit, whose liberal policies have run that city into the ground.  But somehow we can’t afford to permit aging veterans into our national memorials dedicated to them and their service to America and the world.

The WWII memorial, and others that have been blocked, are open areas.  They have no fences (until two days ago) or gates or walls or doors.  There is no fee charged to enter.  The Park Police monitor these places, but there is no big law enforcement presence.  The Lincoln Memorial was defaced a couple of months ago with no police officer anywhere around.  Sen. Rand Paul jokingly tweeted that the Obama administration sent more agents to defend the memorial from veterans in wheelchairs than they sent to protect our ambassador in Benghazi.

The truth is that it cost more to erect the barricades and patrol them than we ever spend on security.  There is absolutely no good reason that any of this is happening.

Again, President Obama has discretion here, and all fingers point to him.  (We’ll find out for sure at some point in the future – the FOIA requests have already been filed.)  Recalling that our school children are still banned from entering the White House, the People’s House, and now watching the despicable spectacle of 90-year-old veterans in wheelchairs being banned from their national monument, a pattern becomes visible.

For sure, this is not a random, unintended consequence.  It is purposeful.  And it has been done to make a point – a point I reject.  I suspect you and most other Americans reject it also.

I’m finding it difficult to come up with the right words to describe my thoughts and feelings about this.  Disrespectful, disgraceful, dishonest?  Petulant, vengeful, arrogant?  How about un-American?  How about narcissistic?

We live in a democratic republic, not a monarchy.  President Obama is an elected man, not a king.

He tells us he cares about ordinary Americans.

But all I hear is, “Let them eat cake.”

-Kathy

Update:  The cemetery and memorial in Normandy has now been shut down.  The Obama administration has seen the outrage of Americans over their actions in DC, but instead of making the proper adjustment, they raise the ante.

Update II:  The feds are now trying to shut down Mount Vernon, Washington’s home.  The problem is, they don’t own it.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics recently reported that 90,473,00 Americans age 16 or older are not in the labor force.  This is the highest number of unemployed since they have been collecting this data.

Our unemployment rate hovers just above 7%, but this number fails to tell the whole story.  Last month we were told that the number of unemployed dropped by 115,000.  But that’s not because they all found jobs.  It’s because the number of the overall workforce dropped by almost three times that amount.

Friend of Liberty Trail, Max, linked to an article from Byron York yesterday in his comment, and we need to look closely at it.  York tells us that more than 100 large corporations doing business in America have sent a joint letter to congressional leaders urging them to pass the immigration bill being considered.  From the article:

A new immigration law, the corporate officers say, “would be a long overdue step toward aligning our nation’s immigration policies with its workforce needs at all skill levels to ensure U.S. global competitiveness.” The officials cite a publication of their trade group, the HR Policy Association, which calls for immigration reform to “address the reality that there is a global war for talent.” The way for the United States to win that war for talent, they say, is more immigration.

But York goes on to tell us about all the layoffs happening in the very same companies who are signatories of this letter.

Hewlett-Packard, whose Executive Vice President for Human Resources Tracy Keogh signed the letter, laid off 29,000 employees in 2012. In August of this year, Cisco Systems, whose Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer Kathleen Weslock signed the letter, announced plans to lay off 4,000 — in addition to 8,000 cut in the last two years. United Technologies, whose Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Organization Elizabeth B. Amato signed the letter, announced layoffs of 3,000 this year. American Express, whose Chief Human Resources Officer L. Kevin Cox signed the letter, cut 5,400 jobs this year. Procter & Gamble, whose Chief Human Resources Officer Mark F. Biegger signed the letter, announced plans to cut 5,700 jobs in 2012.

Those are just a few of the layoffs at companies whose officials signed the letter. A few more: T-Mobile announced 2,250 layoffs in 2012. Archer-Daniels-Midland laid off 1,200. Texas Instruments, nearly 2,000. Cigna, 1,300. Verizon sought to cut 1,700 jobs by buyouts and layoffs. Marriott announced “hundreds” of layoffs this year. International Paper has closed plants and laid off dozens. And General Mills, in what the Minneapolis Star-Tribune called a “rare mass layoff,” laid off 850 people last year.

With a record number of Americans unemployed, big businesses are demanding that Congress import cheap labor for them.

UnemployedMan

I fear Congress and the Obama administration are more than willing to accommodate these folks.  They preach to us about what a dangerous place the world is.  They must violate our privacy, make war in our name, and spend obscene amounts of our tax dollars to “protect” us.

All they while they still refuse to secure our borders from foreign invaders.  Our cities are overrun by violent gangs, many of whose members are here illegally.  Federal bureaucracy ties the hands of local law enforcement to do anything about it.  Our hospitals are crumbling under the cost of providing medical care for illegal aliens who cannot pay.  Many of our school districts face the same problem.  They push our welfare system to the brink.

There are the bigger dangers that come from terrorists who sneak in with the “poor farmers simply seeking a better life for their children.”  No one knows who they are, where they are or when they will strike.

And now they want our jobs too.  I’m a strong believer in capitalism, but this is not capitalism.  This is treasonous.  These big companies are ones whose donations fund the campaigns of the very politicians who will decide if cheaper payrolls trump the welfare of American citizens.

In the coming weeks as the debate on the immigration bill heats up, you’ll see and hear the usual pleas from those valedictorians and that nice kid who just wants to be a Marine.  Their stories will tug at your heart.  They are meant to.

But are you willing to trade your child’s dreams for theirs?
