When a crazed person starts driving erratically and in a threatening manner in the general vicinity of our politicians, this is what happens.

ProtectPols2Law enforcement from multiple agencies turn out in numbers so great it’s impossible to count them all.

And that’s a good thing.  We want our leaders protected, don’t we?

But what happens when thirty or so crazed people start driving erratically and in a specifically threatening manner, singling out a man and his family on the road?

CricketI’m sure you’ve seen at least parts of the video.

IMG_3796.jpgI watched the whole thing.  It was more than six agonizing minutes.  I’m certain those folks were on the phone with 911.  Yet no officer ever appeared to help them.  Thank God that man, his wife and his two-year-old daughter are still alive.

It’s easy for a lot of these people

CongressGroupPhototo tell you that you have no need for one of these.

GunsAssortThey are surrounded by people who have them and are ready to protect them.

But the rest of us?  We’re on our own.  We don’t enjoy the same luxury of being surrounded by armed personnel charged with keeping us safe all day, every day.

Oh, and when some crazy-eyed politician limits the amount of ammo you are permitted to have, yelling, “No one needs ten bullets to kill a deer!” or some other irrelevant nonsense, ask him what you should do when you are outnumbered 30-1.

Don’t expect a reasonable answer.  He doesn’t need to carry any of his own ammo.  He’s got this.

This is one of my favorite scenes from Duck Dynasty.

My husband and I laughed out loud watching that one.  Take away the beard, the boat and the swamp and Phil Robertson is everyman.  Well, at least he’s my husband who has also mastered the art of tuning out “chatter.”

That lack of political correctness, the honesty about something as simple as the fundamental differences between the sexes is refreshing and draws me to watch this show.

Almost 12 million of us tuned in to watch the season premiere of Duck Dynasty.  The show has become a phenomenon, and Americans just can’t get enough of the Robertson family.  When we’re not watching, we’re making them even richer by buying Duck Dynasty gear – mugs, t-shirts, videos, bobble heads, doormats, sunglasses…  You can even get an official Duck Commander Marshmallow Blaster.

DDMarshmallowBlaster

But what is it that makes this show, this family, so endearing?  They certainly don’t fit the modern standard for stardom.

DDHunting3

They don’t look the part.  They own guns.  They shoot animals.  And eat them!  They believe in God.

But I think that’s just it.  I think we are drawn to them because they are not like Hollywood, but more like us.  Or maybe how we would like to be.  The Robertsons may look like throwbacks to another time, but their values are timeless and purely American.

The men actually behave like men.  And they don’t apologize for it.  Their wives may not be thrilled with those wild beards, but they accept their husbands and don’t nag them about being men and doing what men do.  In return, those men respect their wives.  Maybe it’s a little thing like listening to a little chatter, but there is a mutual respect that seems lost in our current society that dictates too much of our behavior.

While politicians and activists promote more and more control of firearms, the Robertsons seem oblivious.  Their guns are a part of their way of life.  In the past, Phil used his shooting skills to provide food for his family.  They are wealthy enough now that Phil no longer has to hunt for food, but he still prefers to live his life as he always has.  Telling Phil Robertson that he is no longer permitted to use a gun would be like putting him in prison.

There’s a wildness to this family.  It’s normal to them, but those of us living as “yuppies” in cookie-cutter houses in the suburbs are drawn to it.  Our lives are more and more regulated, restricted, managed, controlled, surveilled and mandated.  But this family is free.  We might get away for an occasional week to enjoy the great outdoors, or to hunt or do a little fishing.  The Robertsons just go out to the backyard.

If they want to hunt, they hunt.  If they want to fish, they fish.  If they want to blow something up, they do.  And no, I don’t understand why men like to blow things up.  I just know that they do and who am I to judge?

At the end of each episode, at the end of their day, the Robertsons gather together for the evening meal.  (June Cleaver would be proud.)  Phil commands, “Ya all bow.”  And he prays, thanking Jesus for the bounty He has provided.  I read somewhere that this was a deal-breaker, that this family would not hide their Christian faith on the show.  That faith is integral to their lives and had to be included.  It’s another rarity on display each week.

This family isn’t perfect.  In the season premier, at their belated wedding Miss Kay told Phil that she loved him even “when you weren’t very nice.”  They’ve had their hard times, but stuck it out and made it work.  Their sons seem to be decent men who married well.  The grandchildren are loved and their upbringing is the family’s business.  Everyone participates.

And who wouldn’t want all that?  I guess there are some who watch just to see what crazy thing Uncle Si might say that week.  There’s probably a few who watch just to mock and exercise some mistaken sense of superiority.

But I think most of us watch because it is familiar.  We may not have the beards, wear the camo or skin our own dinner.  But we have the same values as the Robertsons – love of God and family, pride in America’s greatness, in self-reliance, defense of liberty, and little tolerance for political correctness.

In the past we could tune into Little House on The Prairie or The Waltons to find these and to offer our children quality entertainment and worthy role models.  That’s not so easy anymore.  I cringe at some of the people our youngsters idolize today.  Hollywood has traded in those values for gratuitous violence and hyper-sex and serves this to our youngsters as glamorous and hip.

Then along comes this unlikely family of rednecks.  They are imperfect, they don’t take themselves too seriously, yet we see in them all that we fear is slipping through our fingers.  But their success signals that we are not alone, that there are other Americans out there who also share the Robertson’s values – at least 12 million of them.

And that makes me happy, happy, happy.

Michael Votruba had just arrived home from a long day at work when he spotted an animal scurrying across the yard as he exited his vehicle. Votruba was clearly able to identify the animal as a bobcat when it approached him growling. He drew the pistol he was carrying and took a few steps back. The bobcat lunged at him, attacking his leg. Votruba shook free and ran only a few steps before the bobcat jumped on his chest. Again, Votruba fought back throwing the cat to the ground and shooting twice. When the bobcat lunged at his chest yet again, Votruba fired several more shots, killing the animal. Votruba was not seriously injured during the attack, and immediately received the necessary rabies shots and an updated tetanus shot. (Telegram & Gazette, Holden, MA, 6/20/13)

Jan Cooper, 72, was at home with her husband, Bob, 85, when she made a 911 call for help as a man attempted to break into their home. She told police to hurry as the assailant was on her back porch trying to gain entry through a sliding door. She told the police that she was armed with a .357 revolver and that she would shoot if need be. When she heard the door sliding open, she fired. The intruder fled, but was later found and arrested for burglary. “I don’t mean to shoot anybody,” said Cooper, “but whatever’s necessary to literally stop them—he was not going to come into my home.” (Foxnews.com, Anaheim, CA, 6/12/13)

At approximately 11 p.m., a resident responded to the sound of an intruder entering his home. A 21-year-old man had used a shovel to break through a back window and enter the residence. The resident retrieved a firearm and shot down a hallway toward the intruder. The intruder, who already had a long list of previous offenses, was struck and later pronounced dead. The homeowner was reportedly not injured during the home invasion. (The Post & Courier, Orangeburg, SC, 5/27/13)

Jessica Grayson was driving behind a pickup truck when the truck suddenly stopped in front of her, blocking her lane. A man exited the truck and approached Grayson’s vehicle. He began beating on the window and grabbing the door handle in an attempt to get in. Jessica quickly pulled out her Colt .357 revolver. “… I pointed my gun at him and told him to step away from my car or I would shoot him,” Grayson explained. The assailant immediately backed away from her vehicle and left. “You hear a lot of stories about guns being used in crime, but they prevent crime every day, too,” Grayson said. “What if I hadn’t had my gun that day?” (The Advertiser-Gleam, Danville, AL, 6/28/13)

Store owner, Arturo Taveras, 69, was working at McCann’s Liquors when a masked man entered, pulled a gun on him and demanded money. Taveras did not hesitate to draw his own firearm from his right hip and point it back at the would-be robber. When he saw Taveras’ gun, the attempted robber fled the premises. It was last reported that police were reviewing surveillance video and searching for the attempted robber. (The Eagle-Tribune, Lawrence, MA, 6/4/13)

While walking down the sidewalk, a military service member was assaulted by a man he did not know. As he was walking around 3 p.m., he was approached by a stranger, who proceeded to verbally assault him before physically striking him in the head. The attack was reportedly unprovoked. The service member, also a concealed-carry permit holder, pulled out his firearm detaining the assailant until police arrived and arrested him. (The Olympian, Olympia, WA, 5/31/13)

A woman and her son were driving around 11:30 a.m. when a vehicle cut them off and abruptly stopped in front of them. A man exited the vehicle, pulled the woman from her vehicle and held a knife to her throat. When the woman’s son got out of the car to confront his mother’s attacker, he was reportedly punched in the face. A passerby witnessed the attack and stopped to intervene with his .40-cal. handgun. When the suspect saw the firearm, he quickly returned to his vehicle and drove off. The good Samaritan who had stopped to help was able to get the suspect’s license plate number, which later resulted in the attacker’s arrest. He was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and assault and third degree battery. (WISTV.com, Richland County, SC, 6/5/13)

Hillary Clinton says the verdict in the Zimmerman trial “brought heartache, deep painful heartache.”

While Eric Holder said people should be “respectful” his DOJ held a conference call with the NAACP, the ACLU and other civil rights organizations to ask for their help supplying any information to prove George Zimmerman is racist.  They announced that they were “aggressively investigating” the case and offered an email address set up only for tips about Zimmerman’s racism.

FL State Attorney Angela Corey, who prosecuted the case, called Zimmerman a murderer on air after the trial was over and he was acquitted.

Barbara Arnwine, director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law called the verdict “a travesty and miscarriage of justice.”

Jasmine Rand, one of the Martin family’s attorneys, said of the verdict, “I don’t think that they (the jury) properly considered the evidence. If they had listened to the evidence and if they had followed the law, then George Zimmerman would have been convicted of murder.”

Congressman John Lewis (D-OH) said the verdict “seems to justify the stalking and killing of innocent black boys and deny them any avenue of self-defense.”

Except for Lewis, all these people are attorneys.  All of them, including Lewis, have sworn to uphold the law in America.  They have a special responsibility to abide by and protect our legal system.

Yet see the things they say in public about a jury decision they don’t like.

Getting out of jury duty is a cliché and a joke that’s older than I am.  Most people don’t want to serve and often do so reluctantly.  It’s an inconvenience.  But this behavior from officers of the court and those who have sworn to uphold the law moves that reluctance to a new level.

The women who served as jurors in this trial are in hiding, just like the defendant who has been declared innocent of all charges.  They have been

Juror B37

threatened and are now living in fear that their identities will be exposed.

The race baiters and others who profit from civil unrest continue to whip up rage.  Our president remains silent.  Our Attorney General has launched a public witch hunt for information he already knows he won’t find.

Jury duty?  No thanks.  I’ll take the punishment for refusing.

It can’t be anywhere near the punishment that the women of the Zimmerman jury are now receiving for doing their civic duty.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) spoke to Spanish language Univision network this weekend about the immigration bill he has been pushing.  The interview was in RubioConventionSpanish but this is some of the English translation:

“Let’s be clear.  Nobody is talking about preventing the legalization. The legalization is going to happen. That means the following will happen: First comes the legalization. Then come the measures to secure the border. And then comes the process of permanent residence.”

And this:

“As for the legalization, the enormous majority of my colleagues have accepted that it has to happen and that it has to begin at the same time we begin the measures for [the border.]  It is not conditional. The legalization is not conditional.”

And there you have it.  The legalization is NOT conditional.

We have been told all about the “triggers” that will be put in place to ensure that our borders are being secured – criteria that will have to be met in order for the provisions of the bill concerning the future of illegal aliens to continue to be implemented.

But once these folks have legal status will anyone in Washington care about those triggers?  Based on their track record of border “security” do we have any reason to believe that this time it will be different?  There’s a lot to talk about here.  For today, I’m looking at this in the context of recent events – the steady stream of scandals coming out of the Obama administration.

Illegal aliens are always presented to us as “undocumented workers.”  They are poor, hard-working Mexicans simply doing what they have to in order to feed their families.  Rarely do we talk about all the criminal gang members or the OTMs – Other Than Mexicans – people from all around the world entering the US by way of our southern border.

Depending on who’s talking, we hear that we have 11 million to 20 million illegals in the country.  My personal opinion is that there are far more, but the truth is that no one knows for certain because we simply don’t know who is here or where they came from.

Our federal government has a long history of not only ignoring security at our southern border, but actively preventing it.  The Obama administration continues the tradition by limiting the authority of our border patrol agents and stepping in to stop Border States from enforcing the law to stop the flow of illegals.

But while our government looks the other way and allows anyone, including people from terrorist countries to slip in to the US, we citizens of America are having our rights taken away by that same government in the name of security.  The NSA is collecting our private correspondence, the IRS is monitoring our speech, the TSA subjects us to illegal searches and there is a massive effort to strip us of our 2nd Amendment right to bear arms.

And that’s just a small sampling of the current abuse directed at American citizens.

More than a decade has passed since the attacks of 9/11/01.  That’s more than enough time for our leaders to have locked down our border and assured us that no one gets in that we don’t know about.  Congress even passed a law in 2006 mandating a fence along that border.  That fence remains uncompleted today.

Remember Congressman Chaffetz’ visit to the border just a couple of months ago?

Again, our government allows a daily flow of foreigners across our border, but my private correspondence is subject to government scrutiny?  And it’s all done for my own good?

Senator Rubio, if you’re out there – you’re my senator.  I would be far better served if you would stand up for my rights, guaranteed to me under the Constitution that you swore to protect, instead of being so dedicated to the “rights” you believe we owe to people who have broken our law as their first act on our soil.  Your obligation is to American citizens and to the security and sovereignty of the nation, not to those who would abuse our generosity for their personal enrichment, or worse, to do us harm.

Charlie Blackmore was driving home around 4 a.m. when he spotted a woman being assaulted along the side of the road. A man had pushed her to the ground and was kicking her repeatedly in the head and stomach. Blackmore stopped his car and ordered the man to stop the attack. The assailant then turned his attention to Blackmore and began approaching him. Thanks to Wisconsin’s new concealed-carry law, Blackmore was able to draw his pistol and hold the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived. The woman was treated for what appeared to be a broken nose and large laceration on her face. (TheBlaze.com, West Allis, WI, 3/15/13)

Paul Ohle, 69, was at home baking around 9 a.m. when he heard more than a dozen bangs on his front door. By the time he made it to the door, a man had already forced his way inside. The man told Ohle that he needed help, so Ohle picked up his cell phone to call 911. The man grabbed the phone from Ohle and pushed him onto the sofa. He ordered Ohle to stay where he was as he tried to take his television. Ohle struggled with the man, but managed to get to the .38-cal. handgun he kept in his bedroom. Ohle fired multiple rounds killing the intruder. Ohle was later taken to an area hospital where he was treated and released. (Hickory Daily Record, Hickory, NC, 2/26/13)

Lee Heng, 63, was asleep when two suspects allegedly scaled the wall and entered Heng’s second-story apartment through the bathroom window. Heng woke to the sound of his 14-year-old son screaming. Realizing his son was in danger, Heng jumped out of bed and grabbed his gun. The armed intruders confronted Heng and a struggle ensued. Heng fired several shots which caused the men to flee. One suspect suffered fatal gunshot wounds and the second suspect was reportedly still at large. It’s believed that the suspects were attempting to rob the jewelry store Heng runs on the first floor of his home. (TheBlaze.com, Philadelphia, PA, 4/1/13)

Irene Parker, 78, and Beverly Wright, 43, were volunteers walking door-to-door ministering and distributing religious literature just before the Easter holiday. Parker visited one home where a woman answered the door. Before Parker was able to speak to the woman, a large dog lunged forward from inside. The screen door flew open and Parker landed in the yard. Parker could do nothing but try to protect her face as the dog tore at her flesh. Wright, who was just two doors down the street, ran toward Parker in an effort to help. Wright took a baseball bat from the dog’s owner and swung at the dog, but only caused the dog to turn its attention toward her. Wright screamed when the dog attacked. Two blocks away, Mike Harrell could hear the desperate cries for help. Harrell kept a gun in his truck, so he drove to the residence and immediately took action. Harrell fired one shot killing the dog. Parker and Wright suffered severe injuries, but after extensive surgeries both women survived the attack. (Tulsa World, Tulsa, OK, 3/24/13)

A woman was at home when she noticed a vehicle she did not recognize in her driveway. A man she did not know came to her door and began knocking and ringing the doorbell. The woman grabbed her handgun for protection because the man seemed suspicious. Before she could answer the door, the man allegedly kicked it in and entered the woman’s home. Upon seeing the handgun pointed in his direction, the man fled. As he drove away, the woman took a photo of the vehicle with her cell phone. That photo later led to the arrest of the man who had broken into her home. (The Northwest Indiana Times, Merrillville, IN, 3/22/13)

Phibbie Underwood, a 72-year-old woman on oxygen, was home alone when she heard the front door rattle, saw a shadow on the front porch and then heard a loud banging on the window. Underwood retrieved a gun she kept in her bedroom and returned to find a 26-year-old man who had broken the window and gained entry to her home. Underwood ordered the man to get out of her home and leave her alone. Instead the man walked into another room, then walked back toward her. Underwood warned the man to stop and when he didn’t, she pulled the trigger. The gun misfired, so Underwood fired again and missed. The man got down on the floor to avoid being shot. Underwood held the man there until police arrived. (Tribune Chronicle, Youngstown, OH, 3/29/13)

A Massachusetts kindergartener has been punished for “traumatizing” other students on his bus by brandishing a gun.  Another student spotted the weapon and quickly notified the bus driver.

The 6 year-old was given detention (which was later reversed) and made to write a letter of apology to the bus driver.  His bus riding privileges are in jeopardy.

Here’s a photo of the gun that caused the panic:

TinyToyGunThis is just the latest in the long and growing list of hysteria over children with guns made of pop tarts and paper.  And we can laugh at it or we can be honest about what’s going on.

Our children are being traumatized purposefully by adults who are driven by personal ideology and are laying the groundwork for abolishing our 2nd Amendment from the ground up.  These anti-gun progressives may not be able to win their battle now, but by the time this generation reaches voting age, they’ll all be breathing into paper bags at the mere mention of the word “gun.”

So we can dismiss this as silly and isolated.  Or we can look at the growing number of similar stories and demand that the people who run our schools stop using, abusing and brainwashing our children for their own personal, political agendas.

This is Armed Citizen from this month’s America’s 1st Freedom:

College student Christopher Boise heard knocking sounds coming from the first floor of his home. When he walked toward the source of the noise, he was confronted by two strange men in his apartment. One of the men was pointing a handgun straight at Boise. When Boise cried out, it was heard by his roommate, Raymond, who instinctively grabbed his legally owned AR-15 and readied it. It was just moments before one of the intruders made it to Raymond’s door. Upon seeing Raymond’s rifle, both men fled the apartment. Nothing was taken and no shots were fired. After the incident Boise said, “I’m happy he saved my life. I was very thankful he had his gun.” (13wham, Rochester, NY, 1/23/13)

Debi Keeney, 55, was at home with her sister, Donna Carlyle, 47, when she stepped outside to smoke a cigarette. As she closed the door behind her, a man approached and pushed his way inside the apartment. The man threw Keeney to the floor and put Carlyle in a choke hold. He demanded money as Carlyle gasped for air. Keeney was quickly able to get to a .22-cal. derringer she kept hidden in a side-table drawer. She warned the man to release her sister or she would shoot. When he continued to demand money, Keeney fired. The 33-year-old intruder was later taken to a local hospital to be treated for two gunshot wounds and was listed in critical condition. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Highland, MO, 2/11/13)

Ernest Robinson, an assistant high school basketball coach, was escorting two of his female team members from the building one evening when they were approached by two teenage boys.  One of the teenagers wielded a gun. The gunman ordered the girls to leave as the other teen yanked at the chain Robinson wore around his neck.  Robinson quickly pulled out his concealed pistol and fired at both assailants, killing one and wounding the other. The surviving perpetrator is now being charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of assault with intent to rob while armed. (The Detroit News, Detroit, MI, 2/15/13)

Three masked men entered Plaza Jewelers one afternoon, one carrying a gun while the other two wielded hammers. Store owner Alfonso Angela spotted the men through the store window and grabbed the gun he kept hidden behind the counter. The two men with hammers, one carrying a bag, were approaching the glass cases of jewelry when Angela cocked the hammer of his gun. Within seconds, the men were making a hasty exit. Police were called and two male suspects were later taken into custody. (San Jose Mercury News, Fair Oaks, CA, 1/21/13)

A 34-year-old man entered a bank carrying a handgun that was later determined to be a realistic plastic replica. He pulled a black mask over his face and demanded money from a teller. His robbery attempt, however, was thwarted by another bank employee’s very real Smith & Wesson .357 revolver. The employee, a legal concealed carry permit holder, fired his weapon after realizing the man robbing the bank was armed. The robber fled the scene leading police on a high-speed car chase. The suspect was soon caught and hospitalized for a gunshot wound to the jaw. He was later charged with attempted bank robbery and leading police on a high-speed chase. There were reportedly no other injuries. (The Blaze, Trimble, MO, 3/4/13)

It was before dawn when Christine Lewis entered her bathroom and spotted the silhouette of a man outside the window. The man had torn off the window screen and was attempting to break in. Christine’s husband, John Lewis, heard the commotion from the bedroom and retrieved his .38 Smith & Wesson revolver. The man outside had failed to force open the window and was now lurking outside their home. Lewis walked out his front door and confronted the man. The man started to approach Lewis despite repeated warnings. The two remained in a standoff until deputies arrived and took the man into custody. He was jailed on multiple charges. “I own a gun for reasons like this. I want to protect myself,” Lewis said. “The way I see it, your home is sacred ground, and you have the right to protect it.” (Mail Tribune, White City, OR, 1/26/13)

Kelby Smith, 34, pulled into his brother’s driveway and was carrying his 2-month-old son in a car seat when a man with a pistol approached them and demanded money. Smith knelt in front of his son to shield him as the robber held the gun to Smith’s head. As Smith handed over a small amount of cash, he pulled his own gun from its holster. Upon seeing the firearm, the robber fled, but turned and pointed his gun back at Smith, who fired his gun. The man was later identified as he entered a hospital seeking treatment for a gunshot wound. When the most recent battle over gun control was scuttled in the Senate, President Obama called it “shameful.”  And the old media went a bit berserk.  Our own local paper here in South Florida, the Sun-Sentinel, said it was disgraceful, disgusting and gutless.

Those opposed to the bill were painted as heartless villains who don’t care about the young children murdered in CT, even though the bill would not have changed what happened there if it had been in place at the time.  The truth played no part in this.  The bill was so overreaching that it was doomed from the first moment.  The proponents of the bill knew that.

But passing the bill was never the objective.

The current incarnation of “immigration reform” is following the same pattern.  The bill is completely outrageous.  It contains every dream come true for the progressive left and is anathema to conservatives.  It too is doomed to fail.

But passing this bill is not the objective.

So then, what is?  According to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) it’s all about the politics.

“President Obama does not want an immigration bill to pass.  I think that the president wants to campaign on immigration reform in 2014 and 2016. And I think the reason that the White House is insisting on a path to citizenship for those who are here illegally is because the White House knows that insisting on that is very likely to scuttle the bill.”

When the immigration bill fails, or is simply put away on a shelf somewhere in Harry Reid’s office, the same cry as we heard after the gun control bill failed will go out.

Shameful.  Disgraceful.  Disgusting.  Gutless.

Those heartless conservatives hate people who don’t look like them.

And the campaign for 2014 is set.  Conservatives – angry, old white guys, clinging to their guns and their religion, who have KKK hoods in the back of their closets – need to be defeated.  The truth won’t matter.  The Sun Sentinel, like most of the media will run wild with it.  It will all be done in an effort to sway the low information voters to give President Obama what he really wants –

Democrat control of the House again, with our old friend Nancy Pelosi back in the driver’s seat.
