I just deleted what I planned to post here today.  It ran way too long and I feared you would not stay with me to the end.

But it boils down to this:  Two weeks ago, our elected leaders held a “shutdown” of our government.  It was a fraud, and if not for their willful efforts to make life miserable for us, most of us would not have even noticed it.

All the while these members of our elite political class from both parties made Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee out to be public enemies one and two.  They called them ugly names – terrorists, jihadists, Nazis, wife-beaters and racists.  Even The President of The United States participated.  Those of us who supported the efforts of Cruz and Lee were, by extension, included as targets of these slanderous charges.

All this ugliness was because these two men led a small group of members of Congress who kept their campaign promises and tried to stop Obamacare before it was too late.

Think about that for a minute.  They kept their promises to their constituents and see how they were treated for doing so.

And now we’re living the nightmare of what they tried to stop.  In Washington lingo, it’s a “glitch.”  In the real world, it’s promises broken, it’s ineptitude and arrogance.

President Obama stands in the Rose Garden, puts on his best angry face and proclaims, “No one is more frustrated than me.”  It’s as though he is an innocent bystander who had nothing to do with any of it.  He had no idea.  He was blind-sided.

The big headline at The Drudge Report this morning said 300,000 Dropped From Health Plans In Florida.  That’s 300,000 of my neighbors who believed Obama when he told them they were going to be able to keep their health insurance that just got the rug pulled out from under them.

And it’s happening all across the country.  Real people.  Real lives turned upside down at the whim of lying politicians and their social experiments.

Obamacare was supposed to be all about getting health insurance for a relatively small number of folks who couldn’t afford it.  But it is ensnaring all of us who don’t have connections to the elite class.

The stated goal was never the real goal.  If anyone in Washington truly wanted to fix the problem they would have addressed the root, which is the high cost of health CARE.  But they didn’t.  They addressed insurance instead.  And what they created is simply a complex plan to redistribute the cost, and drive that cost so high that we would be unable to afford it, our current system would collapse and we would clamor for someone to fix it.

Then the real plan would be put in motion – the plan to institute government administered healthcare for us all.

This is what so many of us warned and is the only explanation for what we’re witnessing.  In an honest society where truth is valued, Obama, Reid and Pelosi would be laughed out of office for such a failure.  Sebelius would be in prison.  But we abandoned the truth in favor of politics, so they are indifferent.  This is no big deal.  And that’s because they don’t care if any of this works.  It’s only temporary, a stepping stone on the way to their prize – universal healthcare.

They want to rule, not govern.  They want to regulate us at will.  And positioning themselves between us and our doctors gives them all the power they need to control everything we do.

Cruz and Lee have been marginalized by the complicit media and there is no one left to defend our freedom.  We are alone.  We will now live by the rules we have allowed them to institute.  We didn’t pay attention to what they were doing and their task is just about complete.

We turned out backs.  We were not vigilant about our liberty.  And while we watched American Idol and tweeted about Miley Cyrus, they stole it from us.  The machine they built has been set in motion.  I don’t know how we stop it now.

There is actually some work getting done in Washington this week.  Yesterday there was more testimony before the House Oversight Committee concerning the IRS scandal.   You’ll recall that the IRS has been accused of singling out conservative groups applying for tax exempt status and targeting them with delays and intimidation.

Remember when Becky Gerritson from the Wetumpka Tea Party got her say?

It was heartbreaking to hear her story and the stories of other Americans who were abused by thugs from our federal government.  But those thugs don’t seem to have learned their lesson.  Yesterday, Sarah Hall Ingram testified before the committee.  Ms. Ingram was one of the big shots in charge when all this was happening.

See the exchange between her and Rep. Gerald Connolly (D-VA.)

How dare they!  But this is what your government thinks of you.  They abuse you, stomp on your Constitutional rights and when you complain, they laugh at you.  Yuck, yuck.  How dare you question their authority!

What a small, arrogant man is Rep. Connolly.  The good people of Virginia’s 11th district should throw him out of office.  Unless of course they endorse this behavior.

And Ms. Ingram?  She went right along.  She thought Connolly was quite funny.  She ought to be fired, don’t you think?

Sorry to disappoint you, but she’s been promoted.  She’s now the director of the IRS Affordable Care Act office.

She’s now in charge of enforcing Obamacare.

Godwin’s Law no longer applies, not in Obama’s America, not when average Americans are talking about the “Gestapo tactics” of federal police.

More stories of the vengeance being served up for Americans surface every day.  Yesterday we learned of a group of seniors on a bus tour to Yellowstone being held as prisoners in their hotel.  Armed Park Police forbid they go outside.  They stood guard at the doors.  They barricaded Old Faithful.  They forbid the seniors from taking pictures, saying they could not do that as it was “recreating” and that is not permitted on public land during a government shutdown.

Some of the foreign tourists on the trip thought they were under arrest.  Imagine that!  Visitors from other countries coming to The Land of The Free thought they were under arrest by our federal government.

The tour guide described the behavior of the Park Police as “Gestapo tactics.”

If you haven’t yet seen the full story, read it here.

But perhaps the worst story yet in all this is the news that the United States of America will not pay death benefits to the families of five soldiers killed during our phony government shutdown.  Congress is blaming the Defense Dept. and they, of course, are blaming Congress.

I blame the Commander-In-Chief.

We’ve all watched as President Obama re-writes laws on regular basis with the stroke of his pen.  It would take one phone call from him and the families of our dead soldiers would be taken care of.

But he hasn’t picked up the phone.

It costs money to erect barricades all over Washington and all around the country.  It costs money to have armed agents of the federal government guard these newly off-limit areas.  Money we’re told we don’t have.  Which is it?

And while our veterans and average American citizens are not welcome in our nation’s capital, Nancy Pelosi specifically thanked Obama for opening up the Mall for a rally for illegal aliens yesterday.

IllegalRallyStage

He picked up the phone for that.

All this is wearing on America.  People who work hard and play by the rules don’t like what’s going on.  And their displeasure with Washington politicians goes back far past this current shutdown.  A couple of years ago all that anger manifested in the Tea Party rallies.  These were peaceful gatherings.

On Friday, we’re expecting thousands of truckers to descend on Washington for the “Truckers Ride for the Constitution.”  The drivers say they will clog the beltway, tying up traffic there for three days.  While this certainly isn’t violent, it’s far more active and disruptive than standing around holding a sign for a few hours.

What then?  Do the protests continue to escalate?  What comes next?

More importantly, is this the objective of our president and his advisors?  Does he want Americans to be so angry at their government?

It certainly appears that way, doesn’t it?

If not, why all the poking?  Why all the shoving?  Why push Americans around and treat them so badly that “Gestapo tactics” gets tossed out by a tour bus driver and a bunch of senior citizens?  Why the ongoing effort to so publicly disrespect our soldiers and veterans?

We are in some uncharted territory here, folks.  Tread lightly.  Watch your back.  Watch out for each other.  I think we’re in for a very bumpy ride.  And it will be easy to abandon our principles and simply fall into line.  But the cost of that easy out will be paid with our liberty.

Remember that when the truth is on your side, you hold the real power.  Stay focused on that truth and when it’s all over, we win.  And win we must.  The stakes are just too high.

“We’ve been told to make life as difficult for people as we can. It’s disgusting.”

Wesley Pruden at the Washington Times claims this quote is from a Park Service Ranger.

And it seems to be true.  All around Washington, fences are being erected to block public access to memorials and monuments normally open for anyone to come and go as they please.  National parks are being shut down.  No they haven’t put a fence around the Grand Canyon (yet) but they are barricading access roads and shutting down privately run business in the parks – restaurants, hotels, camp grounds, fishing and hunting services…  They have even tried to shut down places not owned by the federal government!

And as if that isn’t enough, they have closed the ocean.  Think I’m exaggerating?  Read here for yourself.

This is punitive and vengeful behavior coming from the Obama administration over the “government shutdown.”

And I’ve had about as much of it as I can stand.  Is this the nation Lincoln spoke of at Gettysburg?  Do you see a “government of the people, by the people, for the people?”

Are we sheep?

We live in a republic where we elect representatives to run the place.  They work for us.  President Obama doesn’t own the White House.  We provide that beautiful home out of respect for the person elected to be our president.

The members of Congress do not own the Capitol Building.  We provide that for them as a place to meet and do the work of the nation.

If we are to be banned from federal property, then they should be banned also.  After all, we’re all equal and no one is above the law, right?

Sorry Mr. President, but you and the family are going to have to find other accommodations.  We know it’s short notice, but we are having a government shutdown, you know.  Please step aside.  They’re bringing in the barricades.

And you members of Congress are going to have to make other arrangements.  The Capitol Building is being barricaded too.  Sorry.  Government shutdown.  It is federal property.

Your staff and security have been furloughed and your cell phone service has been turned off.  Don’t worry, though.  It’s just for a little while, until the government shutdown is over.  And I hear there are people working on that.

The President of The United States and the United States Congress are not our rulers!  They are our employees!  And it’s time that they, and we, started acting as such.

The White House, the Capitol, the monuments, the parks, all of it, every single square inch of it belongs to us.  How dare they tell us we can’t visit the Grand Canyon or go fishing in Biscayne Bay.  How dare they barricade aging war veterans from their memorial.

But it seems to me that too many Americans are willing to put up with it.  Are you?  Are you willing to sit down and shut up while the Obama administration and the Washington elites steal more of your liberty?

Are you an American or are you a sheep?

Maybe you don’t care.  Maybe you’re content to turn on American Idol and hope for the best.  Maybe you’re content with whatever scraps they toss your way, as long as you don’t have to pay attention to any of that political stuff.  They’re all crooks and liars anyway, so why bother?

Well, you’re at least right about that part.  They are crooks and liars.  And they are stealing your future and that of your children and grandchildren right from under your nose because you can’t turn off the damned TV and stand up for yourself.

What do you plan to tell your grandchildren when they’re old enough?  That America was once a great country and we were free, but you let it slip through your fingers?  What apology will you offer that justifies their bondage and poverty?  You were just too busy and you thought someone else would take care of it?  Who?

I don’t care what side of the argument you are on concerning this phony-baloney government shutdown, but you should not tolerate this presidential show of power.  As I said last week, Obama is our president, not our king.  And he has no right to order agents of the federal government, paid with our tax dollars, to “make life as difficult for people as we can.”

They are snooping into our private correspondence, they demand we give them our private medical records, they spy on us from every street corner, they use the IRS and the TSA to squash our Constitutional rights, they intimidate members of the press who they don’t already control, they manipulate our currency to their advantage and at our expense , they openly invite foreign invaders into our communities against our wishes and they are arming domestic government agencies like nothing I have ever seen before.

And now they are sending armed federal police to keep us off our own property.

What the hell is it going to take to wake you people up?

When a crazed person starts driving erratically and in a threatening manner in the general vicinity of our politicians, this is what happens.

ProtectPols2Law enforcement from multiple agencies turn out in numbers so great it’s impossible to count them all.

And that’s a good thing.  We want our leaders protected, don’t we?

But what happens when thirty or so crazed people start driving erratically and in a specifically threatening manner, singling out a man and his family on the road?

CricketI’m sure you’ve seen at least parts of the video.

IMG_3796.jpgI watched the whole thing.  It was more than six agonizing minutes.  I’m certain those folks were on the phone with 911.  Yet no officer ever appeared to help them.  Thank God that man, his wife and his two-year-old daughter are still alive.

It’s easy for a lot of these people

CongressGroupPhototo tell you that you have no need for one of these.

GunsAssortThey are surrounded by people who have them and are ready to protect them.

But the rest of us?  We’re on our own.  We don’t enjoy the same luxury of being surrounded by armed personnel charged with keeping us safe all day, every day.

Oh, and when some crazy-eyed politician limits the amount of ammo you are permitted to have, yelling, “No one needs ten bullets to kill a deer!” or some other irrelevant nonsense, ask him what you should do when you are outnumbered 30-1.

Don’t expect a reasonable answer.  He doesn’t need to carry any of his own ammo.  He’s got this.

My daughter and son-in-law have been going to the airport to greet returning Honor Flights.  Hundreds of Americans show up for these events.

HonorFlight4

HonorFlight1

They bring my granddaughter, and although she’s only 2 years old, and doesn’t really know what she’s participating in, I like that they are teaching her how to respect these veterans.  There’s a certain circle-of-life thing to it.

HonorFlight5

HonorFlight3

Honor Flight is the group that arranges to get veterans, mostly from WWII, to Washington, DC, to see the war memorials.  Through donations, they fly the veterans from their home states to DC for the day.  Most of these heroes would otherwise never get to make the trip.  This is just one of those really good things that Americans do for each other.

It has been hard to watch what’s happened in the past couple of days, as these memorials have been fenced off, blocking access to the veterans, telling them they are not welcome.

HonorFlight7I’m sure you’ve already made up your mind about who is to blame for this national disgrace, but we need to be clear that The President of The United States has discretion in this matter.  Just last week, the White House “found” $100 million of “untapped” funds to bailout Detroit, whose liberal policies have run that city into the ground.  But somehow we can’t afford to permit aging veterans into our national memorials dedicated to them and their service to America and the world.

The WWII memorial, and others that have been blocked, are open areas.  They have no fences (until two days ago) or gates or walls or doors.  There is no fee charged to enter.  The Park Police monitor these places, but there is no big law enforcement presence.  The Lincoln Memorial was defaced a couple of months ago with no police officer anywhere around.  Sen. Rand Paul jokingly tweeted that the Obama administration sent more agents to defend the memorial from veterans in wheelchairs than they sent to protect our ambassador in Benghazi.

The truth is that it cost more to erect the barricades and patrol them than we ever spend on security.  There is absolutely no good reason that any of this is happening.

Again, President Obama has discretion here, and all fingers point to him.  (We’ll find out for sure at some point in the future – the FOIA requests have already been filed.)  Recalling that our school children are still banned from entering the White House, the People’s House, and now watching the despicable spectacle of 90-year-old veterans in wheelchairs being banned from their national monument, a pattern becomes visible.

For sure, this is not a random, unintended consequence.  It is purposeful.  And it has been done to make a point – a point I reject.  I suspect you and most other Americans reject it also.

I’m finding it difficult to come up with the right words to describe my thoughts and feelings about this.  Disrespectful, disgraceful, dishonest?  Petulant, vengeful, arrogant?  How about un-American?  How about narcissistic?

We live in a democratic republic, not a monarchy.  President Obama is an elected man, not a king.

He tells us he cares about ordinary Americans.

But all I hear is, “Let them eat cake.”

-Kathy

Update:  The cemetery and memorial in Normandy has now been shut down.  The Obama administration has seen the outrage of Americans over their actions in DC, but instead of making the proper adjustment, they raise the ante.

Update II:  The feds are now trying to shut down Mount Vernon, Washington’s home.  The problem is, they don’t own it.

The morning of September 11, 2001 is still very clear in my mind.  I remember the IM from my husband.

“Turn on TV, plane crashed into World Trade Center.”

I remember talking to my Mom on the phone right after that.  She and the rest of my family still live on Long Island.  Moments after we both watched the second plane hit I asked (somewhat childishly) “Mom, what’s going on?”  This was all happening way too close to her.  I was afraid of what else might be coming.

I recall the chaos at my daughter’s school, as frantic parents searched for their kids, wanting to take them home and keep them safe.

I remember that fear, then the anger and then that pit in my stomach.  It was nausea that lasted for days and still returns quickly with the memories.

Sometime in the following days, we collectively vowed to Never Forget.  Like me, I’ll bet you haven’t.  The images of fellow Americans making the choice to leap to avoid burning to death are inerasable.  When you’ve seen something so unfathomable, it’s with you forever.

But what of those in charge?  What about our leaders?  Have they forgotten?  Sometimes it seems so.

We all know Nadal Hassan is a terrorist.  He yelled “Allah Akbar” as he murdered American soldiers.  But it’s been officially named as “workplace violence” as though he just got out of sorts because a co-worker insulted him.

It’s a year today since our Ambassador to Libya and three other Americans were murdered in an awful, violent attack by terrorists.  First our leaders lied to us and when they could no longer get away with the lie, our Secretary of State at the time, who still wants to be our president, demanded to know what difference did it make?  And although the ringleader of the guilty group has been interviewed by numerous media organizations, our FBI seems unable to find him even today.

Too often it seems our leaders put their devotion to political correctness first and our security much farther down their list of priorities.  Those who wish to kill us face an “overseas contingency” operation, while the full force of an overbearing government comes down on us. Yeah, sometimes it seems our leaders do remember it, but use it as an excuse to do things they would otherwise not get away with.

We are subjected to sexual assault at our airports by unqualified agents of the federal government, a practice which is now spreading to other public areas.  Our privacy is invaded as our government looks at any and everything it pleases – our phone records, our financial information, medical records, emails…  Unelected bureaucrats at government agencies like the IRS are charged with judging which speech is free and which needs to be restricted.  People who write opinions such as the ones I often do are matters of concern.

I’m dangerous.

All the while we’re being governed by faux pas as we find ourselves in an awkward international position over Syria’s chemical weapons.  An off-the-cuff remark by our president landed us here and an off-the-cuff remark by our new Secretary of State is what passes for brilliant diplomacy.  The Arab world is in flux, our enemies there continue to plot against us with the support of our much larger, more dangerous, traditional enemies and our leaders are scrambling to appear credible.

But you and I remember.  We haven’t forgotten.  Too many of us know someone who died that day.  It still makes me angry.  It still makes me sick to my stomach.

And as long as we don’t forget, the vile and twisted evil of that day can never win.

-Kathy
